About Me
I am Steven Felix. I'm a (psychological) scientist, student, teacher, baker, runner, father, and aspiring data scientist. In Spring 2018 I will receive my PhD in Experimental Psychology from Harvard University, after which I plan to transition into a career in data science and/or behavioral research (e.g. user experience).
As a scientist, I believe ‘the devil is in the details’. I like to get knee-deep in messy data (especially human data) to understand the processes that gave rise to them and to generate actionable-insights from them. When the data are not already in existence, I enjoy designing creative and rigorous scientific methods to obtain them. I am naturally curious and observant, and I love learning new tools and methods to answer new questions. I thrive in collaborative environments where team members can rely on each other’s strengths. Furthermore, I believe firmly in the importance of building connections and relationships with others through listening, caring, and understanding. My colleagues have described me as warm, passionate, creative, and conscientious.
Highlights from my skills and experience include:
- knowledgeable in theories and research about human behavior
- proven track record of carrying out ambitious projects from inception to completion
- proficiency in Python and R for data wrangling and analysis
- basic knowledge of C, Javascript, PHP, SQL
- experience with a wide array of advanced Statistical and Machine Learning techniques
- ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences through a variety of media
Currently, I am seeking an industry or government job that will allow me to use my technical, creative, and problem-solving skills to tackle meaningful problems.
When I'm not writing a web scraper or looking at data, I'm most likely running, baking bread, or changing diapers at the playground.
